Prof. Dr. Hasnan Ahmed

Dr. Hasnan Ahmed was born at Dattail-Shumbhunagar village in Chuadanga district in February, 1958. He is a well-known academician whose diverse contribution and role in the field of accounting, industrial management and corporate governance has been recognized by both academicians and practicing professionals in Bangladesh and abroad. He is a personality who has devoted himself in education and training at home and abroad, has experience of nearly 4 decades in teaching, expertise in Business Administration and Industrial Management, and served in many administrative positions for various organizations.   

He is an essayist, writer and storyteller. He started his writing from his school-life. After reading his writing, one can realize that he has been weaving words by his pen, having the consciousness of indefinite life and its horizon. He is like a robust artist in language, delineating the concurrent disordered societal system and flawless picture of deviated life-style in his writing. He has manifested the authentic and psychological perspective of the worsening scenario of the present decadence of values, chaotic society, hooliganism in politics, unruly religion, the predicament of public life, moral degradation, and the low standard of education. From the perspective of a liberal educator, he has drawn the pragmatic milieu of human resource development and the sketch of the future directions in his writing. His minute and frank expression has been portrayed in his several poetries, novels, essays, and short-stories. His writing has impressionist expression that pictures the concurrent directions of society-building, environment, varieties of life, and the authentic portrayal of socio-economic reality and its surroundings.                

Dr. Ahmed has been deeply involved in teaching, research and educational administration of various government, non-government, and autonomous professional institutions, colleges, research institutions, and universities for the last 39 years. He started his career as a researcher in different socio-economic research projects. He served as the Head of Education and Administrative Department of ICMAB, as well as actively engaged in various capacities in the field of educational administration in the Government of Bangladesh. He also worked as a Visiting Scholar of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), an AACSB accredited public university. As an actively involved Member of the Academic Advisory Committee of ICMAB, he has contributed immensely to the professional development of the institute.

For the last 17 years, he has been actively working with UIU from the very beginning of the university. Besides serving as the Director of BBA program for a considerable time, he played the role of the Dean (Additional Charge), School of Business and Economics in the same university. With his 39 years of experience in various capacities in different organizations, Dr. Ahmed worked as the Pro-Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of UIU, aiding the governance of the university.

His outreach to other professional bodies and social work is also noteworthy. He has been acting as the founder Director, Board of Trustees, Federation of Bangladesh Human Resources Organizations and a Fellow of the Bangladesh Society for Human Resources Management (BSHRM). He is also the founder President of KSM Shikkha-Sheba Trust.

He has taken up an unparalleled educational service for the development of education and socio-economic status of the rural people by initiating KSM Shikkha-Sheba Trust. He applied the unique micro-development model with the macro-development model for the Trust. He propagated and established integrated educational system, provided training for the amelioration of the sound mental health of the rural people, and administered monetary help activities for making the poor people independent to have better lives.     

A diversified combination of educational qualifications is what makes Dr. Ahmed unique. He completed his B.Com. (Hons.) and M.Com. in Accounting from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh; Post-Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management from BIM; and earned professional degree, CMA from ICMAB. Now he is a Fellow of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (FCMA). After completing his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Aligarh Muslim University, India, he worked as Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the area of corporate governance at Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary, under the Erasmus Mundus scholarship sponsored by European Commission. The Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS, Education) got him as a cadre officer after he had qualified the BCS ’85 exam.

He is a prolific writer of many books, novels, poems, short stories, essays on concurrent events, etc. The notable published books by him are ‘Jibonkhudha’, ‘Protidan Chaini’, ‘Kichu Kotha Kichu Gan’, ‘Opekkha’, ‘Sheshbikeler Patharekha’, ‘Satter Galpo Galper Satha’, ‘Samokalin Jibonachar O Kormo’, ‘Amader Shikhabyabostha— Chinta O Dhuschinta’, ‘Eisob Dinkal’, etc. 

To his credit, this enthusiastic academician has a number of research articles published in nationally and internationally reputed journals, along with presenting a number of papers in national and international seminars. He is currently working as a Professor of Accounting at UIU.
